It's just a guess, but I'd bet that car is sitting on Ft. Irwin, somewhere between the gate and main post.
I have only been there once, many years ago. I, as you were, was appalled at the number of white crosses between the gate and Barstow. I can see little has changed.
I was out near the NTC today, jeeping with friends. it was an awesome day, I hope that you were able to enjoy some of it.

Your guess is correct.
I was able to enjoy some of it, before it was time to be an Observer/Controller in the box.
Made the Mecca to LACoFD 127, but the crews were out on a job.
